After A Death Occurs At Home

If someone passes away at the home address the deceased’s GP, or the emergency services outside of usual hours, should be contacted. They will attend in order to certify the death. You will then be able to get in touch with us to arrange transportation into our care until a funeral has been organised.

When A Death Occurs At Hospital

Where a death has taken place at a hospital or within any other care setting, the staff will be trained in the correct course of action. They can provide you with professional support and guidance including contacting us on your behalf.

When A Death Occurs Unexpectedly

In the event of sudden or unexpected deaths, you should contact the emergency services immediately. The Coroner will also need to be contacted in order to determine the cause of death and issue a death certificate. Should the cause not be determined upon initial examination, an inquest may be needed.

Registering The Death

In the UK, you must register a death within 5 days, unless the Coroner is involved. Registration should be completed by a close relative or a relative within the district that the death took place. Should no relative be contactable, the person organising the funeral may register the passing. The information you will require for registration includes:
